Everything was ready.
全ての準備ができました。
I was very tired because I worked so hard to build the tower.
塔を建てるために一生懸命働いたので、私はとても疲れていました。
People in my village heard the news and were coming to look at it.
私のいる村の人々が知らせを聞き、塔を見にやって来ました。
Some of these people had laughed at me for months.
この人々の何人かは、数か月にわたって、私を笑っていました。
They thought I was strange when I told them I was trying to generate electricity from wind.
彼らは、私が風から電気を生み出そうとしていると話した時、私を変人だと思いました。
“Here it goes,” I thought.
「さあ、いこう」と私は思いました。

I was born and brought up in Malawi, a small country in Africa.
私は、マラウィで生まれ育ちました、アフリカの小さな国です。
In December 2000, a terrible famine broke out in the country.
2000年12月に、ひどい飢饉がこの国で起こりました。
First, we had to stop having breakfast to save what we had.
最初、私達は持っているものを節約するために、朝食をとることを止めなければなりませんでした。
Then, we soon had nothing to eat, and my school friends and many others died.
それから、私達の食べ物はすぐになくなって、私の学校の友人や他の多くの人々が死にました。
Children had to stop going to school.
子どもたちは学校に行くのを止めなければなりませんでした。

Even when the famine was over, I still had to stay home to work in the fields because my father had not yet made enough money to send me back to school.

I could not blame him.
