Tadao Ando has helped to plan Umi-no-Mori from the beginning.
安藤忠雄さんは当初から海の森の計画に協力してきた。
He has also worked on Omotesando Hills and the Church of Light.
彼は表参道ヒルズや光の教会にも取り組んでいる。
He has won dozens of international awards for his designs.
彼は建築デザインで国際的な賞を多数受賞している。

Ando believes in the Japanese tradition of living in harmony with nature.
安藤さんは日本の伝統的な暮らしは自然と調和すると考えている。
In many of his projects, he tries to bring nature into city life.
彼は多くのプロジェクトで都会生活に自然を取り入れようと試みた。
One of Ando’s projects was to plant trees on polluted islands in Japan’s Inland Sea.
安藤さんのプロジェクトの1つは瀬戸内海の汚染された島々に樹木を植えるというものだった。
Another project was to plant a “sakura line” of thousands of cherry trees in Osaka.
また別のプロジェクトは大阪に何千本もの桜を植えて桜の通り抜けを作るというのるものだった。

Ando hopes that the Umi-no-Mori project will inspire people around the world.
安藤さんは海の森プロジェクトが世界中の人に刺激を与えることを期待している。
He says, “If we want to sustain the earth, all of us must start working to save the environment.
「地球を維持させたかったら、私たちみんなが環境保全に取り組み始めなければなりません」と彼は言う。
The new park is created on a mountain of our own waste, so I hope it will become a model for the world of a recycling society. “
新しい公園は私たち自身が出したごみの山の上に作られます。 ですからこの公園が世界に向けて循環型社会のモデルとなることを期待しています。
