One of the best April Fool’s Day jokes of 2008 was also by the BBC.
2008年のエイプリルフールの最優秀ジョークの1つも、BBC制作されたものでした。
The BBC reported that they had discovered a new kind of penguin with a special ability.
BBCは、特別な能力を持っている新種のペンギンを発見したと報じました。
These penguins do not have to gather closely together during the winter months in order to stay warm.
このペンギンは冬の期間、温かさを保つために身を寄せ合う必要はないのです。
They just use their wings and fly thousands of kilometers to the warm forests in South America.
彼らは自分の羽を使って、南アメリカの暖かい森へ、何千キロも飛んでいくだけでよいのです。
There they spend their winters in the hot sun.
彼らはそこで暑い太陽のもとで冬を過ごします。
The film of flying penguins looked very real.
空飛ぶペンギンの映像は、本物のように見えました。
Several newspapers also showed this news on their websites.

Even Japanese newspapers sometimes try April Fool’s Day jokes.

In 1993, people found a piece of news with a strange title in a parody of The Japan Times.
1993年、人々はジャパンタイムズのパロディ紙に奇妙な見出しのニュースを発見しました。
It read, “New Kansai International Airport disappears in heavy rains.”
「新しい関西国際空港が大雨で消失」と書かれていました。
It reported that the airport went under the water in very heavy rains while the people working there were having lunch, and that the Japanese Coast Guard kept on looking for the airport.
その新聞は、そこで働いている人々が昼食を食べている間に大雨がふり、空港が海中に沈んでしまい、日本の海上保安庁が、空港の捜索を続けていると報じました。
