Once upon a time, when the sea hadn’t yet begun to rise, Grandpa and his wife were just kids themselves.
昔々、まだ海が上がり始めていないころ、おじいさんと奥さんは、彼ら自身まだほんの子どもでした。
They grew up together here, ran through the fields and rested under the trees.
彼らはここで一緒に育ち、野原を駆けたり、木の下で休んだりしました。
They grew to love one another, and got married.
成長してお互いに愛しあい、結婚しました。
This was the first of all the many houses they built together.
この家は、彼らが一緒に建てたたくさんの家の、はじめての家でした。

That little house became their home.
その小さな家が、彼らの家になりました。
Then the house they built after that became their home, too.
それから、その後に建てた家も彼らの家になりました。
And the house they built on top of that became their home as well.
そして、その上に建てた家もまた彼らの家になりました。
They filled each one with love and memories.
彼らはそれぞれの家で、愛と思い出でいっぱいにしました。

Grandpa had moved so many times, as the sea rose higher and higher, and yet he was still where he belonged.

Spring has come, and Grandpa’s new house is complete.

He gazes out the window and notices a dandelion that’s found a crack.
おじいさんは窓から外を見ていると、タンポポが壁の割れ目から生えていことに気がつきました。
It’s blooming there on the ledge.
それは、柵の上に咲いているのです。
Grandpa’s glad to have company.
おじいさんは、連れができたことをうれしく思っています。
Already, he feels at home.
すでに気分は、良い心地です。
